My favorite restaurant in Paris!

Can you recommend a good restaurant by the Hotel Druot… the auction house.

I love your site!!

Thanks Ivy! Whenever you're looking for a specific neighborhood, the best place to start is our Restaurant Index, which is organized by arrondissement - https://parisbymouth.substack.com/p/paris-restaurants

Druout is in the 9th, but very close to the 2nd arrondissement, so you can check both areas. A few that come to mind include:

I love mokonuts and I’m so glad to see this positive review. I would just add that I have been there three times with a vegetarian, and each time they had a veg main! Maybe we just got lucky, but wanted to share in case it was useful info.

Meg Zimbeck's avatar

That's very helpful! I edited to say "Vegetarians might want to head elsewhere — vegetables shine at Mokonuts, but they don’t always have a vegetarian main"

Very interesting. Reading Paris by Mouth always reminds me that I am living in a gastronomic desert and cannot now travel, including to my still favourite city Paris.

Have you tried SOÉ Izakaya in Le Marais? Truly one of the best Parisian hidden gems I've found. Unpretentious but attention to every detail.

I haven't, but thanks for the tip, Anita!

Would love to know what you think if you have a chance to try it :).

Mokonuts is one of THE VERY BEST in Paris! Moko and Omar have great food, good prices and the most welcoming and fun experience. Love their cookbook because the recipes work! It’s like reliving the Mokonuts experience. I can’t say enough good things about Mokonuts and Mokochaya.

I really do love their cookbook!

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. Went again just over a week ago and it just blew us away. We somehow always get to chatting with other diners at Mokonuts. It feels like a pilgrimage to go there and everyone is excited. We’ve seen some pretty high profile chefs dining there over the years. Mad respect for Moko and Omar - they continue to amaze us.

Agreed. I think part of it is they carry that mantle of success so lightly in that they continue to deliver on the highest level but without any ego. I’m so inspired by their partnership.

So well said. We always end up chatting with other diners there because everyone is so excited to be there and enjoying everything about the experience. It’s collective effervescence.

Well put.

We are so lucky to have dined there three times this last calendar year (spate of significant birthdays), and every time, it feels like dining at a friend’s home, if that friend is an amazing chef. Moko is so genuine & welcoming & puts everyone at ease all while managing a busy compact dining room. I love that who they are, meaning the integrity with which they cook, bake, serve, & welcome has not diminished with all their success. It’s the same as my first meal there in 2022. I ate at Locomal two weeks ago and had the same experience with Chef Jose & his team - he spoke so highly of his time cooking with Omar. They deserve the continued support & praise.

Integrity is a great word for it. Delicious, too!

I wish wish wish I had an opinion on this but can never get a reservation!

I'm sorry about that. It really does require advance planning, which I know seems strange for a lunch spot, but I usually book ±4 weeks ahead when I want to go.

Meg Zimbeck's avatar

That captures it! I love this place.

Had the most wonderful thoughtful meal there two weeks ago.

I'm so glad to hear that! Thoughtful is a good way to describe it.
