Where to eat in August 2023
Our calendar of holiday closures and advice for what's good & open
This post is out of date. The 2024 update for this information has been published here.
If you’re planning to visit Paris in late July or August, it’s important to know that most restaurants close for summer vacation. They vary a lot in terms of how much time they take, and when they take it. The only way to know is to ask, and so we have!
We asked our favorite restaurants - the ones we recommend after visiting anonymously and paying full price - to confirm their summer holiday plans. Based on their direct replies, we’ve constructed the following schedule to help you organize your summer eating. Because they’re all closing at different times, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from while you’re in Paris!
The information is shared in two different ways. First, we’ve presented the confirmed summer schedules for more than 80 restaurants, organized by location.
You can also scroll down a little farther to see your options week by week. We’ve broken these down by category so that you can easily find a tasting menu or the right place for classic French or crêpes.
We’ll continue to update this post so be sure to check back. And don’t worry, our food tours will be running all summer long!

This list is terrific -- will you be updating it for 2024? Thanks.
Your info is very helpful. I'm wondering if you know of a restaurant that was located across from the Eiffel Tower, where one sat outside on a veranda and could watch the lights on the Tower as they came on in the evening. All I remember is that there was a large outdoor (marble?) staircase beside the building that the restaurant was in. It was a wonderful location, but friends of mine who were in Paris recently said they couldn't find it. I don't remember the name, unfortunately.
