I understand that restaurants in Paris - or is it in all of France? - are required to serve water and bread to anyone who enters, a requirement since the Revolution. Is that truly the origin of this custom?

Hi Suzanne! That's a fun question, but I'm not a scholar of revolutionary restaurant culture :) My understanding is that restaurants are required to give water. I haven't heard the part about giving bread and suspect that would be complicated in restaurants that don't even serve bread (sushi joints, for example). If anyone else here knows the answer, please chime in!

I have a question and an observation. The question is... Is a lady box where they have tampons and such? I haven't heard the term. The observation. In the section about the ice cream, under the picture it says Smoked Child Ice Cream... hmmmm we are getting closer to Halloween. :-D

That may be my favorite typo ever. A few people wrote me privately so I've corrected it, but I already miss it :)

And yes, the lady box is filled with feminine hygiene products.

I value restaurants where the solo diner is treated well.

There is nothing to eat over there—unless you want to nibble on some Prada shoes for lunch. Excited to give it a try.

That would be an expensive snack!
