One of my firm favourites. Virgil the Somelier was beyond helpful and welcoming.

Nice piece!!

Is there a dish you’re usually tired of seeing everywhere (like pigeon here) but that when done right it wins you over?

Thanks! Sometimes the ubiquity is seasonal. For example, right now we're many months into asparagus season and I'm suffering from spear fatigue because it's on so many menus. But when it's great, it's great!

Ahh, yes! I can relate to that 100%, thank you!

We haven't been to Semilla in a while and it sounds like we need to go again soon.

This was the best I'd ever experienced it.

Juan Sanchez is one of the kindest people you can meet in Paris! Love him, the wine shop and all of his restaurants! Happy to hear Semilla is back on the list 😍. I’ll be there on my next trip. Thanks, Meg!

Meg, for the first time since I’ve been reading Paris by Mouth two years ago we had a totally different experience at one of your faves. This was almost exactly a year ago on our last trip to Paris, so maybe we caught Semilla in one of its lulls. The food was fine, but nothing exciting; the clientele was entirely American; they allowed one of those obnoxious flower vendors into the place to entertain us with Trump jokes; there was no vibe or excitement at all. So we permanently crossed it off our list.

I realize it is hypocritical for an American to complain about too many Americans, and I’ll confess that we make our reservations during the American seating hour (19h30 or 20h00). But the striking thing was that there was no local follow up in the later hours. When we left the place was nearly deserted.

The meal you describe in this review is not in the same universe as the one we experienced. We’ll be back in the fall and since we trust your judgment we’ll debate whether to give Semilla another try.

Well it was bound to happen! :)

I was also bored the previous time I was there, about a year and a half ago. My most recent trip was very different. There are so many good restaurants in Paris, I'm not pressuring you to return to one that disappointed. But Semilla was great on my last visit.

We always hit Semilla once each trip. Never a bad dish and wonderful service.

I’ve shopped at La Dernière Goutte and now I will have to try this restaurant. It sounds great. And the wine list looks as reasonable as it is deep.
