The World's Best restaurants are no longer in Paris

... at least according to 50 Best list. Here's what we think about that.

The 2022 update of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list has just been published, and very few Paris restaurants are included on the list.

Septime is now the highest ranked Paris restaurant at #22. Le Clarence has skyrocketed to #28 from its position at #84 in 2021. Arpège has maintained its long-running position on the list but has dropped to #31. This is the first year in a decade that Arpège hasn’t been the highest ranking Paris restaurant.

And that’s it - three spots in 2022, down from six in 2021. Alléno Paris au Pavillon Ledoyen, David Toutain, and Epicure (le Bristol) have fallen out of the top fifty, and Paris hasn’t had any restaurants in the top 20 since 2019.

What does it say about Paris restaurants that they’re no longer prominently featured on the 50 Best list?
